OverviewRole: Global Spread Products Lawyer - Senior Vice President. This is a Senior Vice President - Senior Lead Counsel position within Markets Legal, supporting Spread Products - Sales and Trading based in London. The term "Spread Products" refers to the business known as "Credit Trading" at other firms, with legal coverage separated between Sales and Trading and Financing and Securitization. The role provides expert legal guidance and thought leadership to the business, with the objective of delivering critical legal support, advice, and guidance to ensure adherence to all relevant laws and regulations.
What you''ll do
Provide legal counsel to the Business, participate in strategic initiatives, interpret relevant laws, rules, regulations, and industry practices, and advise business management on legal matters impacting the business.
Objectively evaluate business proposals by applying institutional knowledge and risk appetite against industry standards, laws, and regulatory guidelines; escalate as appropriate.
Collaborate across internal lines of business and control/support functions to achieve coordinated outcomes; coordinate closely with the Legal team on a regional and global basis.
Participate in business planning and development initiatives; contribute to objectives by providing thought leadership on industry, laws, and regulations.
Identify and manage legal, regulatory, and reputational risk by collaborating with ICRM and Risk, monitor relevant legal developments, participate in internal projects, and escalate as appropriate.
Manage day-to-day legal activities as a subject matter expert and provide advisory services to business partners.
Monitor and escalate complex legal issues and transactions as needed.
Assess risk when business decisions are made, safeguarding Citi’s reputation, clients, and assets by driving compliance with applicable laws and regulations, upholding policy, and promoting ethical conduct; supervise others where appropriate and ensure accountability.
What We''ll Need From You
Relevant industry experience in financial services with demonstrable experience in derivatives and/or structured credit.
Banking or financial industry experience, including knowledge of banking regulations.
Knowledge of international laws, regulations, and practices; ability to stay abreast of the regulatory and legal environment and internal policies impacting the business.
Experience with complex deals and the ability to analyze issues and develop legal solutions.
Effective communication and negotiation skills; ability to build and maintain trusted relationships.
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and relationship-management skills.
Proven ability to apply sound judgment in a fast-paced environment.
Bar license in good standing to practice law.
