Lead M&E Quantity Surveyor - Major Energy Infrastructure Project
Drax, North Yorkshire
£350-£500 per day DOE
Immediate Start & Long-Term Contract Through January 2028

An experienced Lead M&E Quantity Surveyor is required to join a major energy infrastructure project based in Drax, North Yorkshire.

This is a long-term contract opportunity offering work through to January 2028 on a nationally significant electricity transmission project that will support the UK's future energy infrastructure.

Working for a leading international engineering contractor, you will act as the lead commercial representative on site, taking ownership of the day-to-day commercial function while working closely with senior commercial leadership and project delivery teams.

The successful candidate will be commercially responsible for approximately 10-15 subcontractors, including major packages covering mechanical services, electrical works, BMS systems, fire alarms, data installations and other specialist systems.

This is an excellent opportunity to take a leading commercial role on a major HVDC converter station development and play a key part in the delivery of one of the UK's most significant energy infrastructure projects.

The Role

Acting as the Lead Quantity Surveyor on site, responsibilities will include:

  • Leading day-to-day commercial activities across the project.
  • Cost reporting, forecasting and commercial performance monitoring.
  • Management of applications for payment, valuations and final accounts.
  • Administration and commercial management of subcontract packages.
  • Assessment and management of variations, change control and compensation events.
  • Re-measurement of construction drawings against tender submissions to identify and substantiate variations.
  • Procurement support and package buyout activities.
  • Identification and management of commercial risks and opportunities.
  • Maintaining accurate commercial records and project documentation.
  • Working closely with project management, construction and supply chain teams to support successful project delivery.

Requirements

Applications are welcomed from Quantity Surveyors with experience delivering projects within one or more of the following sectors:

Mechanical & Electrical Contracting
HVDC Projects
Substations
Transmission & Distribution
Power Generation
Utilities
Industrial Manufacturing
Process Plant
Data Centres
Major Infrastructure Projects

Applicants should be able to demonstrate:

  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor, Senior Quantity Surveyor or Lead Quantity Surveyor on complex construction, engineering or infrastructure projects.
  • Strong commercial leadership and subcontract management experience.
  • Experience managing multiple subcontractor accounts through to final account agreement.
  • Strong knowledge of variations, compensation events, claims and change management.
  • Experience producing cost reports, forecasts and commercial reviews.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Ability to operate independently within a fast-paced project environment.
  • Relevant Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management qualification preferred.

Whilst experience within M&E contracting environments would be advantageous, candidates with strong commercial experience gained on major infrastructure, power, utilities, industrial or engineering projects are also encouraged to apply.

Working Arrangements

  • Monday to Friday.
  • Approximately 48 hours per week.
  • Additional hours available where project requirements dictate.
  • Long-term contract through January 2028.
  • High-quality welfare facilities and on-site canteen available.
  • Orange PPE required (trousers can be supplied if required).
  • No lodge, accommodation or travel allowance provided.

About the Project

Based in Drax, North Yorkshire, this project forms part of a major UK electricity transmission development designed to strengthen the national grid and support the transfer of renewable energy across the country.

The works include significant mechanical, electrical and specialist systems installations associated with the construction of a new HVDC converter station. Construction activity is expected to increase substantially throughout 2027 as the project progresses through key delivery phases.

This is a rare opportunity to secure a long-term contract on a landmark infrastructure project with a leading international engineering contractor delivering some of the UK's most important energy and infrastructure developments.
