A supportive secondary school is looking for a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to work with pupils with Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), providing the encouragement and guidance they need to develop academically, socially and personally.



The Role of SEN Teaching Assistant in Stevenage

As a SEN Teaching Assistant in Stevenage you will play an important role in supporting pupils across the school day. You will work within the classroom, provide individual assistance and deliver small-group support, helping students remain focused, confident and engaged with their learning.



Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1, classroom and small-group support for pupils with MLD
  • Help students develop their literacy, numeracy and wider learning skills
  • Work alongside teachers to adapt activities and make lessons accessible
  • Encourage positive behaviour and maintain a calm, structured learning environment
  • Develop positive and trusting relationships with pupils
  • Support students with their emotional, social and educational development
  • Encourage greater independence and confidence in everyday learning

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN, ideally MLD
  • Experience working within a secondary school or similar educational setting
  • A calm, patient and consistent approach
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to respond positively to different learning needs and behaviours
  • A reliable, proactive and team-focused attitude
  • Able to commute to Stevenage
