My Local Authority client in London, is seeking an experienced Town Planning Policy Specialist to work with them in their Planning Policy Team in an initial 6-month contract with the possibility to extend.

The London Borough is undergoing a period of substantial change and growth. With one of the highest housing targets in London and Opportunity Areas identified for transformational change in key areas.

This is an exceptional opportunity to influence change in a key part of London.

You will shape the delivery of a quality planning service by leading on all aspects of statutory and non-statutory plan-making and implementation. You will provide professional expertise, technical advice and guidance to positively shape development, while promoting continuous innovation in the way planning policy is developed and implemented. You will ensure planning policy is integrated into wider agendas and contributes to achieving the borough''s social, economic and environmental objectives.

You will be accountable for significant areas of complex policy work within the Planning Policy team and will deputise for the Head of Plan Making and Place Shaping, managing the team in their absence.

• You may also directly line manage junior planning policy staff.
• You will hold specialist skills in one or more areas, enabling the team to provide a comprehensive and professional range of skills aligned with national and local policy priorities.
• You will lead and manage the development and promotion of planning policies, including commissioning specialist evidence from external consultants.
• You will defend these policies at public examinations and appeals.
• You will provide planning policy expertise in response to requests for advice and guidance across the authority, as well as supporting the needs of external customers at all stages of the planning process.

This role requires 1-2 office days per week.
 
£50-£55 umbrella based on experience.
