Role Overview
Position: Year 1 Class Teacher (KS1)
Start Date: September 2026 - July 2027
Location: Haringey
Pay: MPS 3-4 Inner London (-226.86 - -237.64 per day, PAYE)
Contract: Full-time, full academic year
Key Responsibilities
As a Year 1 Class Teacher, you will take full responsibility for the learning and development of your class, including:
- Planning and delivering engaging, differentiated lessons in line with the KS1 National Curriculum
- Supporting pupils through the crucial transition from EYFS to KS1, ensuring continuity in learning styles and expectations
- Delivering high-quality phonics sessions (e.g., Read Write Inc., Little Wandle, or similar programmes) and promoting early reading development
- Assessing, tracking, and monitoring pupil progress, using data to inform planning and targeted interventions
- Creating a stimulating, language-rich classroom environment that encourages independence and a love of learning
- Managing classroom behaviour effectively using positive reinforcement and clear expectations
- Supporting pupils with a range of needs, including SEN, EAL, and varying attainment levels
- Working collaboratively with teaching assistants, colleagues, and parents to support each child''s development
- Contributing to wider school life, including planning, meetings, and school events
The Ideal Candidate Will:
- Have strong KS1 teaching experience, ideally with direct Year 1 classroom responsibility
- Be confident delivering systematic phonics and early reading strategies
- Have a solid understanding of the EYFS framework and how to support a smooth transition into KS1
- Demonstrate excellent behaviour management with a calm, nurturing, and consistent approach
- Be passionate about raising attainment and supporting all learners to reach their full potential
- Be a team player who is eager to contribute to a supportive and collaborative environment
