Support Assistant - SEMH Primary

Tradewind Recruitment are currently recruiting for a dedicated and resilient Support Assistant to join a welcoming alternative provision in Eccles, Salford, supporting primary-aged pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about helping children overcome barriers to learning and who can build positive, trusting relationships with pupils who may have experienced challenges within a mainstream school environment.

The successful candidate will work closely with teaching staff and the wider pastoral team to provide consistent, nurturing and individualised support, helping pupils to engage with learning and develop their confidence, emotional regulation and social skills.

The Role

As a Support Assistant, you will:

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support to primary-aged pupils with SEMH needs.
• Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils through a calm, patient and consistent approach.
• Support pupils to regulate their emotions and manage challenging behaviour.
• Encourage engagement with learning and help pupils develop positive attitudes towards education.
• Work alongside teachers and pastoral staff to deliver personalised support.
• Assist pupils with their social, emotional and behavioural development.
• Help create a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment.
• Follow individual behaviour and support plans where appropriate.
• Promote positive behaviour through encouragement, consistency and clear boundaries.
• Support pupils both inside and outside the classroom where required.

About You

The school is looking for someone who is:

• Confident supporting children who may display challenging or distressed behaviour.
• Able to remain calm and consistent in difficult situations.
• Passionate about supporting children with additional needs.
• A strong communicator who can build relationships with pupils and staff.
• Able to set clear boundaries while maintaining a nurturing approach.
• Adaptable and willing to respond to the individual needs of pupils.
• Previous experience working with SEMH, SEND, challenging behaviour, alternative provision or vulnerable children would be highly beneficial.

You may have experience as a Teaching Assistant, Support Worker, Youth Worker, Behaviour Mentor, Residential Support Worker or in another child-focused role. Relevant experience and the right attitude are just as important as formal qualifications.
