Key Responsibilities 1. Installation and Wiring Install new electrical systems, including wiring, distribution boards (consumer units), sockets, switches, and light fittings. Follow technical drawings, diagrams, and specifications (e.g., from architects or engineers). Route cables, either internally in conduits/trunking or externally, ensuring protection and support. Connect power supplies to machinery, control systems, and other equipment in industrial settings. 2. Testing, Inspection and Fault Finding (Crucial Skill) Perform Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICRs) to assess the safety of existing installations. Use specialised test equipment (e.g., multimeters, insulation resistance testers, earth fault loop testers) to check for faults, continuity, and safety. Diagnose and rectify electrical faults efficiently and safely, from a tripping circuit to a major system failure. 3. Maintenance and Repair Carry out routine maintenance on electrical systems to ensure longevity and safety. Repair or replace faulty components, such as circuit breakers, fuse boards, and damaged wiring. Upgrade existing electrical systems to meet current regulations (e.g., upgrading a consumer unit to provide RCD protection).
