Social Worker – Duty and Assessment Service
Location: Wigan
Contract: Full-time, Permanent
About the Role
The Duty Service in Wigan is made up of five dedicated Duty Teams and a Duty Academy. As part of our service, you will be on duty one week in five, with the support of a Team Manager, Advanced Practitioner, and Senior Social Worker.
This is a fast-paced role where you’ll use your expert assessment and intervention skills to work with families at the very first stage of support. Our Duty Service does not hold long-term cases — instead, you will complete assessments and interventions before stepping families across to the most appropriate team for ongoing support. Case transfer points include Initial Child Protection Case Conference, first CLA review, first PLO meeting, and the 3rd CIN meeting.
What You’ll Do

Carry out high-quality assessments and interventions for children, young people, and families.

Respond quickly and creatively to complex challenges, making informed decisions in a fast-paced environment.

Empower families to develop their own sustainable long-term solutions.

Work collaboratively with colleagues and multi-agency partners to achieve the best outcomes for children.

Ensure accurate analysis, risk assessment, and planning to safeguard children and support families effectively.
What We’re Looking For

A qualified Social Worker (with registration with Social Work England).

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess and interpret complex information.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to engage with children, families, and partners.
