About this role
As a working supervisor/foreman you will be leading a grounds maintenance team, ensuring that all landscaping, horticultural and general grounds maintenance work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard. The role involves hands-on work alongside the team, planning daily activities, managing resources and maintaining good relationships with clients and colleagues.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and motivate a team of grounds maintenance operatives.
- Plan and allocate daily workloads and ensure tasks are completed within agreed timescales.
- Carry out grass cutting, strimming, hedge trimming, pruning, planting, weeding and general grounds maintenance.
- Operate and maintain grounds maintenance machinery, tools and equipment safely.
- Ensure all work is completed to the required quality and company standards.
- Conduct site inspections and identify maintenance requirements.
- Liaise with clients, site managers and members of the public in a professional manner.
- Complete daily work records, timesheets, vehicle checks and other relevant paperwork.
- Monitor stock, equipment and materials and report requirements to management.
- Ensure the team follows company health and safety procedures and risk assessments.
- Identify hazards and take appropriate action to maintain safe working environments.
- Provide guidance, training and support to team members.
- Report issues, defects, incidents and customer concerns to management.
- Assist with scheduling, estimating and organising work where required.
- Ensure vehicles, machinery and equipment are kept clean, secure and in good working order.
- Carry out other reasonable duties associated with the role.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Previous experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping or horticulture.
- Experience supervising or leading a team.
- Good knowledge of grounds maintenance practices and equipment.
- Ability to organise workloads and prioritise tasks effectively.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and use initiative.
- Strong understanding of workplace health and safety.
- Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Full UK driving licence desirable/essential depending on company requirements.
Desirable Qualifications
- Level 2/3 qualification in Horticulture, Landscaping or a related subject.
- PA1/PA6 pesticide qualifications where applicable.
- Relevant chainsaw, machinery or arboricultural qualifications.
- First Aid qualification.
- CSCS or other relevant site qualifications where required.
