Special Educational Needs (SEN) Tribunal Officer
Role PurposeTo lead and manage complex SEND Tribunal cases on behalf of the Local Authority, ensuring statutory compliance and high-quality case management. The postholder will represent the Council at tribunal hearings where required and deliver a solution-focused service aimed at reducing parental recourse to tribunal while safeguarding the needs of children and young people with SEN.Key ResponsibilitiesManage a high-volume caseload of SEND Tribunal appeals, ensuring deadlines and statutory requirements are met.Prepare detailed case documentation, gather evidence and liaise with legal services.Represent the Local Authority confidently at Tribunal hearings.Provide expert advice on current SEN legislation, statutory procedures and government guidance.Work closely with parents/carers, schools, legal representatives and multi-agency partners.Promote early resolution and effective risk management in complex cases.Contribute to service development and continuous improvement.Essential RequirementsDegree-level qualification or equivalent experience.Significant experience working within a tribunal or legal framework.In-depth knowledge of SEN legislation and statutory processes.Strong advocacy, negotiation and written communication skills.Ability to manage complex cases and competing deadlines.Competent in MS Office and case management systems.Full UK driving license and willingness to travel countywide.
