Nonstop Consulting is working with one of our local authority partners in Ipswich to help with filling exciting opportunity. This is for an experienced finance professional to join a forward-thinking, local government organisation as Head of Finance (Technical). This is a senior leadership role offering the chance to shape financial strategy, drive governance, and lead on all technical accounting matters within a complex environment.

Head of Finance (Technical) - About the role
As Head of Finance (Technical), you will lead the delivery of high-quality financial accounting and statutory reporting, ensuring full compliance with relevant regulations and standards. You will play a key role in supporting strategic decision-making, providing expert financial advice to senior stakeholders, and driving continuous improvement across financial processes and controls.

You will work closely with colleagues across the organisation, contributing to financial planning, strengthening governance frameworks, and ensuring best practice in financial management.

Key Responsibilities of Head of Finance (Technical)

• Lead the technical finance function, including statutory accounts and financial reporting
• Ensure compliance with all relevant accounting standards and regulatory requirements
• Provide strategic financial advice to senior leadership and key stakeholders
• Strengthen financial governance, controls, and processes
• Drive continuous improvement and support organisational change initiatives
• Lead, develop, and support a high-performing finance team

• Fully qualified accountant (e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIPFA or equivalent)
• Strong technical accounting knowledge, ideally within the public sector or a complex organisation
• Proven leadership experience with the ability to influence at senior level
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
• A proactive and strategic mindset with a focus on continuous improvement
