CAFM System Contractor
-440 per day (Inside IR35)
6-month contract (Hybrid working )
Reading, Berkshire UK
Your new organisation
We are a major international meteorological research organisation operating at the intersection of environmental science, technology and data. Our scientists and technical specialists combine complex observational data, advanced digital infrastructure and specialist scientific equipment to deepen our understanding of the natural environment and inform decisions with real-world consequences. We are now investing in a new Asset Management System, creating a single, trusted source of information and transforming how our scientific assets are managed across the organisation. As such, we are looking for an experienced CAFM System Contractor to accelerate its implementation and establish the governance, data standards and operating model required for long-term success.
Your new role
You will lead the continued implementation, governance and operational management of the Science Asset Management System, acting as product owner and service lead during a critical transition into live delivery. Working across scientific, laboratory, field, estates, digital, finance and procurement teams, you will coordinate system configuration, asset-data migration, testing, training and organisation-wide adoption. You will establish practical processes covering asset lifecycle management, planned preventative maintenance, calibration, fault reporting, risk assessment and disposal, while improving data quality, reporting and audit readiness. You will also manage the operational relationship with the external system provider, overseeing service performance, change requests, roadmap priorities and contract governance. The assignment calls for someone who can establish control quickly, align a diverse stakeholder community and leave behind a trusted service, clear documentation and a stronger basis for operational and capital-investment decisions.
What you''ll need to succeed
You will have demonstrable experience implementing, managing or improving a business-critical CAFM, CMMS, EAM, maintenance, inventory or asset-management system. You must be able to translate user and operational needs into structured requirements, workflows, data standards and prioritised system improvements, supported by practical experience of configuration, migration, testing, training and adoption. A sound understanding of maintenance planning, calibration, equipment governance, fault management or asset lifecycle processes is essential, as is the ability to use dashboards, reports and data exports to identify issues and drive measurable improvement. Experience with SharePoint-controlled documentation, product ownership, Agile delivery, service management, supplier governance, compliance, health and safety or ISO-related processes would be advantageous. Exposure to scientific, technical, laboratory or field-based environments would also be valuable. Success will require a commercially aware contractor who can work independently, challenge constructively and turn a developing platform into a credible operational capability.
What you''ll get in return
This is a 6-month contract paying -440 per day Inside IR35, with a 50/50 hybrid working arrangement in Reading. You will take ownership of a significant asset-management transformation and leave a lasting operational legacy.
