Mechanical Design Engineer

The Opportunity

An established manufacturer of bespoke industrial machinery is looking to recruit a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its growing engineering team. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with machine building experience who wants to be involved in the full product lifecycle, from concept design through to manufacture and commissioning.
Working within a collaborative design team, you will be responsible for developing innovative mechanical solutions for automated production equipment used across a range of industrial sectors.
Key Responsibilities

• Produce 3D models and detailed manufacturing drawings using CAD software.
• Design bespoke mechanical machinery and equipment from concept through to completion.
• Develop assemblies, sub-assemblies and component designs for manufacturing.
• Work closely with production, purchasing and project teams to ensure designs meet customer and manufacturing requirements.
• Support the build, testing and commissioning of equipment.
• Carry out design calculations and engineering analysis where required.
• Assist with design reviews and continuous improvement activities.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant engineering standards and health & safety requirements.

Experience Required

• Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering.
• Previous experience in a Mechanical Design Engineer position.
• Experience designing special purpose machinery, automation equipment or machine building projects.
• Strong 3D CAD experience (SolidWorks, Inventor or similar).
• Understanding of fabrication, sheet metal, machined components and mechanical assemblies.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and work effectively within a team environment.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Desirable Experience

• Experience working within the food, packaging, manufacturing or process machinery sectors.
• Knowledge of pneumatics, conveyors, drives and motion systems.
• Experience supporting machinery installation or commissioning activities.

• Salary -30,000 - -35,000 depending on experience.
