English Teacher

Location: Stockport
Start Date: ASAP
Role: Day-to-day and short-term supply, with potential for longer-term opportunities
Pay: £140–£190 per day, depending on experience

Cover People are currently seeking English Teachers for secondary schools across Stockport, with flexible supply opportunities available.

These positions are primarily day-to-day and short-term, making them well suited to teachers who want flexibility or are looking to build experience across different schools. There is also the potential for longer-term placements where schools have an ongoing staffing requirement.

You will provide high-quality English teaching and help maintain continuity of learning when schools require additional classroom cover.

Depending on the assignment, you may be responsible for:

• Teaching English across KS3 and KS4

• Delivering lessons in English Language and Literature

• Following school planning and adapting resources where appropriate

• Creating a positive and purposeful classroom environment

• Managing behaviour effectively and maintaining clear expectations

• Supporting pupils with different abilities and learning needs

• Checking understanding and providing constructive feedback

• Encouraging pupils to participate and take an active role in their learning

• Working collaboratively with other teachers and support staff

We''re looking for English teachers who are confident stepping into different school environments and can quickly establish effective classroom routines.

You should have:

• QTS or an appropriate recognised teaching qualification

• Recent experience teaching English at secondary level

• Strong subject knowledge in English Language and Literature

• Effective classroom and behaviour-management skills

• The ability to deliver engaging lessons and work from existing planning

• A flexible, reliable and professional approach

• A genuine commitment to pupil progress

Both ECTs and experienced English Teachers are encouraged to apply.
