An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Public Rights of Way Officer to come and join a busy client in the Cheshire area.

The main duties of the experienced Public Rights of Way Officer are:

  • Manage and process Public Rights of Way applications, including diversions, extinguishments, creations, and reclassifications.
  • Support the maintenance and review of the Definitive Map and associated legal records.
  • Investigate and respond to enquiries, complaints, and requests relating to Public Rights of Way matters.
  • Provide professional advice on legal and procedural matters relating to Rights of Way and public access.
  • Carry out enforcement activities to address obstructions, misuse, or unlawful activity affecting Rights of Way networks.
  • Prepare legal documentation, reports, and case papers to support enforcement action, litigation, or prosecution proceedings.
  • Liaise with internal departments, external organisations, landowners, developers, statutory undertakers, and members of the public.
  • Represent the service at meetings, hearings, public inquiries, and stakeholder forums where required.
  • Review planning applications and development proposals affecting Public Rights of Way infrastructure.
  • Monitor and manage delegated budgets, including grant applications and funding claims.
  • Promote and support the development and use of Public Rights of Way networks across the borough.
  • Ensure all activities are delivered in line with relevant legislation, health and safety standards, and departmental procedures.
  • Assist with wider countryside access and network management initiatives as required.
  • Attend occasional out-of-hours meetings and site visits to support operational requirements.
