Overview
Cumming Group, a Cost and Project Management Consultancy within the construction industry, is seeking a Senior Cost Manager to join the Birmingham office. The Senior Cost Manager will be part of a team delivering Industrial and Logistics projects for one of the UK''s largest industrial developers. The group has a 20+ year relationship with this client and a dedicated team delivering multiple schemes at various project stages.Responsibilities
Provide cost management and employer’s agent services through pre and post contract stagesManage the consultant team from planning and due diligence through to tendering, contract award and post-contract employer’s agent dutiesCollaborate closely with Cumming Group directors as the focal point for client representatives, ensuring exemplary service, client satisfaction and delivery team performanceContribute to business development with an interest in the wider Industrial and Logistics market, key players, competitors and sector growthCarry out duties efficiently in accordance with office Quality Assurance processes and proceduresTake personal responsibility for complying with Environmental, Health, Safety, Security and Quality StandardsDevelop relationships with clients, consultants and supply partnersKey Attributes
Support for client bids on prospective sites and cost benchmarking, advising on procurement and delivery strategies related to site locationPreparation of indicative cost budgets and appraisalsPreparation of elemental cost plansAdvising on high-level cost per sq.ft/m2 benchmarks with awareness of abnormal costsUnderstand client needs and develop a strategy to deliver themValue engineering analysis to ensure affordability with minimal post-contract changesMarket testing of key elements with supply chain partnersData analysis on design efficiencies, benchmark costings and inflation trendsDigital measurement and elemental take-offsEngage the construction market and advise on suitable supply chain partnersPrepare and issue tender documentation, including client-specific conditionsRun tender processes to planned timelines and manage tender queries to ensure compliant submissionsPrepare electronic contract documents and manage warrantiesAct as Employer’s Agent under JCT Design and Build contractsScrutinise and verify applications for interim paymentsAssist project managers with Early Warnings, Instructions and Compensation Events (NEC contracts)Chair in-person site progress meetings with clients, contractors and key stakeholdersAdvise and liaise with project design team and internal teamsQualifications and Skills
Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or a similar technical disciplineClient-facing with a high standard of deliveryExperience in industrial and logistics projects desirableMRICS preferredStrong experience of JCT Design and Build contractsAbility to manage complex projects proactively and diligentlyStrong technical delivery experienceStrong cost planning experienceCommercially astuteExperience providing procurement advice, tender documentation and post-contract servicesPreviously employed by a consultancy or end-user clientTrack record of working with teams and delivering deadlinesFull clean driving license with attendance at regular monthly site meetings throughout the UKWorking from home is permitted 1 day per week; however, in-person office attendance is important for building relationships due to the senior nature of the roleCompany and Equal Opportunity
