The Bar Council represents the barrister profession - nearly 18,000 members strong and made up of both employed and self-employed barristers as one united bar. We work with our members to develop and implement policy and to provide the governance, resources, services, marketing, communications, training and events to support the Bar in the public interest. The Bar Council delegates its regulatory responsibilities to the independent Bar Standards Board (BSB). The BSB regulates barristers and specialised legal services businesses in England and Wales in the public interest.The Bar Council and BSB are seeking a new Vice Chair for the joint Audit Committee to assist the Chair of the Audit Committee in:leading the Committee; andensuring that the General Council of the Bar has an effective framework for corporate governance (including risk reporting).Candidates will preferably be, but need not be, a practising barrister with experience of serving high-level committees and with knowledge and understanding of internal/external audit, compliance, and risk monitoring.Appointments will be for a term of three years with a further term possible. The role is remunerated at £184.92 per meeting plus expenses.Audit Committee meetings are held up to 4 times throughout the year.
