We are supporting a growing consultancy in Derby in their search for a Project Engineer / Civil Design Engineer to join their expanding infrastructure and energy team.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an engineer with 2-3 years'' experience who is looking to combine strong technical design skills with a clear pathway into Project Management, working on cutting-edge substation and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects.

The Project Engineer role;

You will be involved in the delivery of civil engineering packages on major energy infrastructure projects, supporting both design development and project coordination. The role offers a balanced mix of technical input and project-facing responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities of this Project Engineer role;

• Assist in the design and delivery of civil works for substation and BESS projects
• Support the management of project programmes, budgets, and resources
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams, contractors, and stakeholders
• Contribute to project planning, reporting, and risk management
• Work within and support the administration of NEC Contracts
• Ensure timely and high-quality project delivery

About You

• 2-3 years'' experience in civil engineering, ideally within a consultancy environment
• Experience in civil design, with exposure to project coordination or delivery
• Interest in developing a career in Project Management
• Understanding of, or experience working with, NEC Contracts
• Strong communication, organisation, and problem-solving skills
• A proactive and collaborative approach

Desirable

• Experience working on energy, utilities, substation, or BESS projects
• Familiarity with UK infrastructure standards and design practices
